Scientific publication for ATO in rail traffic

Differential analysis for automated regional railway operation

The next year, 2024, will be a special one for automated regional rail operations in Lower Saxony in Germany. The further development of an extensive scientific program is the core of the current ARTE research project. The focus of the scientific project is the real-life testing of automated rail operations, for unaccompanied stabling and shunting journeys and also for trains in public service with train attendants. The technical challenge for the engineers includes the specific modification of an existing train, e.g. by installation of additional components for camera-based signals and obstacle detection. The scientific publication emphasizes that the future target system will follow the premise of a fully automated regular train operation whose technologies are based on the basic features of the ARTE system. The evaluation of safety-relevant data is basis of the project, which also presents latest results regarding advanced studies to the ATO-fallback level.
