Scientific publication for ATO in rail operation

Exemplary application of an user guide on safety integrity requirements elaboration for automatic train operation (ATO)

Automated processes are increasingly influencing the further development in rail operations. The following article presents a detailed example in relation to the results of the ATO-RISK project. The project is particularly pioneering, as an innovative instruction user manual for risk analysis and safety integrity requirements has been scientifically developed according to future automated functions in rail operations.

The operating concept for the automated provision of trains, e.g. between a depot and a station, is the focus of the new article, which uses the human factors method in ATO-RISK based on RARA (Railway Action Reliability Assessment) to analyze the human reliability. The article summarizes: Driverless provision of trains can be a first successful use case at the introduction of ATO in rail operations.
